The free version of garrysmod was discontinued years ago and new source games since then will not on it.

Garry`s mod DOES have role-play mode.
Well... actually its a mod with custom role-play maps an everyhting!
You can be a gunseller, police, mailman...everything you want!
You can buy a house and only you have a key for it!
You can own properties, lock them, rent them, sell them AND SO ON!
Best of the best role-play mods are done with thing called "MelonScript", but that roleplay is 200% serious --> say 1 word without this "/OF/" tag infront of your off-topic text and you are banned. But it`s hell of a fun!
Garry`s mod doesn`t even need lots of system-reguirements... even my 1,8GHz windows runs it xD.
And YES, Indeed 75% of garry`s mods idea is to create random stuff and do random things with them... alone or with other players
For example, there is this "WireMod" which makes you able to do a FULLY...FULLY working computer with entities them mod has!
So guy has created linux with it!

But yes, it needs steam and yes, you can bypass updating but i cant tell how.
its as same as with oblivion
i searched youtube and found that this problem only occurs with the blasted illegal copy
but i bought it for 10$

i tried playing CS:S and CS:1.6
None worked
only offline(shucks)
my valve server list doesnt load no matter what
ill throw a screenshot if anybody cares to help

Q. Why wasnt garry making the source to gmod open?
A. Because he copied most of stuff from the JBmod of HL2
Just google for jbmod
but if JBmod copied every thing from Gmod it would rock as it is freeware and would make garry extremely poor
wish i could try it but download aint working from that site for me
