I got a copy of a game C&C RA2 with Yuri's revenge for old times sake
but the disc image he gave me is in Vmdk format
i know which software executes it but the problem is that
the software aint freeware and the trail version doesnt have very small space for me to download
the software is known as Vmware workstation but is there anyother tool which can help just to view and extract this file not create or edit it?

Well, you could make a new machine and add that file as a virtual disk. But the problem is that I don't know is it an operating system, or something else. As a matter of fact I have no idea how your friend succeded to pack the game into the .vmdk.
Unless he installed an operating system, then the game and sent it to you...

Anyways, you can go to:
New( or "Machine -> New") then a window will pop-up.
Click on next.

You will have name box, Operating System drop-menu and Version of the selected operating system.
Although you can select anything you want and try it, I recomend MS Windows as Operating System and Windows XP as version. They are set like that by default.
Click next.

The third screen will have RAM slider. You need to select how much RAM you will give to Virtual Machine.
I suggest leaving like it is, because you can always change it.
Click next.

The fourth screen is where we will add your own .vmdk file.
Check "Use existing hard disk" then click on the little icon next to the drop menu.
Another window will pop up. Click on "Add". You need to locate your .vmdk file. Double click the file.
Now click on "select".
The window will dissapear and in drop menu you will have your file selected.
Click next.

The last screen will give you info about your newly created machine.
Click finish.

After you click finish, click "Start" (icon is a green arrow pointing right).

Then tell me what happens.

Or it's just a clever way to package illegal distributions of a game...

there was a complete intact ISO which was exact copy of disk
if you call sharing illegal then yeah i am illegal
And i dont share it on internet or something its just a barter system

I already know that but still thanks for increasing your post count

on a completely unrelated note
i asked him why the hell did he gave me iso for the game instead of the CD and even an Iso in vmdk file
he answered that he lost his disk weeks ago and he thought that if he put the iso in his vmdk file it would show better compression

Hey, I ain't God or your parental guardian. I ain't passing judgement and I don't condone nor dissuade people. I'm just stating what it is. I've seen some really interesting ways of distributing media like this. I saw a .avi file that was supposed to be "Constantine.avi" when it actually turned out to be a .rar file with a disk image of a never-released PSX game called Thrill Kill originally developed by Virgin Interactive. There are loads of ways of passing one thing off as another, you just gotta be aware of that fact and not expect everything to be what it says on the label.
