Okay, I have made the choice to install a distribution of linux on my computer permanently. But what i need is a gaming version. I have heard that there are distributions that can run exe's. Is this true and does any one know one?

Thanks to any one that helps.

Oh and my sys info, just in case if that helps.. at all. lol
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHz
Memory: 502MB RAM
Video Card: Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family

-sigh- Good enough specs, don't trash yourself. Personally I am running a netbook and managing nicely.

Alright, no one distro of linux is made specifically for gaming. To my knowledge what you do to run .exe files in Linux is get a good emulator like the famous Wine program.

Question is, why do you need a distro of Linux at all? Linux 'runs faster' because it doesn't have a lot of the crap Windows has (anti-virus). Running an emulator to play your games on Linux will just slow them down (defeating the your purpose of installing Linux) If you run a stripped down Windows installation, you should be good for everything and not need anything else.

If you are still hellbent on getting a distro: Ubuntu is simple, easy and stable, with an awesome community to boot. If you want to explore check out Fedora, Redhat, Mandriva or openSUSE, but don't expect a whole lot of support or programs.

frig i could go on forever...just pm me

You fail. why the hell would i pm you?

I've already used Ubuntu. I think i might try one of those ultra light versions of linux. i think i might just get linux for the awesome features. but whatever.

and hell, that netbook is better then my crap, all but your CPU. you have
1.8Ghz (right?)
1GB RAM
and some other vid card that's better then mine

1.6 ghz Intel Atom CPU (1.8 Ghz in Turbo Mode)
Intel 945 Chipset 128 mb Gfx
1 gb DDR2 RAM (Upgradable to 2gb with this mobo)
160 gb HD (Upgradeable to 500gb at the moment)
10.2" LCD Screen
Full Sized QWERTY Board
1.3 Megapixel Webcam
Microphone
Stereo Speakers
802.11b/g Wireless Lan

I can run GTA SA with good FPS on this thing, but CS2D goes down to 30 FPS O.o. 7 hour battery life. Course I use Steelsound 5H V2, Steelseries Ikari with Steelseries QcKKvY pad and my Microsoft Razer Reclusa keyboard, lowers it to 5 hours.

Windows XP Home is all I need on this thing to run just about anything I'll ever need. A list of the programs I'm running:

Google Earth
GTA San Andreas
CS2D
Teamviewer
Paint.Net
MS Office 2007
Audacity

Those are the most important programs I use on here, but if i ever need more: This netbook can handle WIndows 7 apparently XD, lagged as crap though.

No Linux needed!

@Nil: How did you get GTA:SA to run on an Intel GPU? I thought that model didn't support HW T&L.

@Vibhor: He isn't using a laptop, he is using a netbook.

I have NO idea how i got it to run, but on a netbook it is a friggen miracle in itself.

Keyword man, "netbook" not laptop. I picked this up for under $450 with a 3 year warrenty, so I am not expecting the best of the best.

GTA 4 is good and all, but GTA SA is just as good when you factor in amazing multiplayer, and good FPS even on my netbook.

Now, expect off-topic marks everyone!

Oh, wait... my bad, that model HAS HW T&L, I think you must have the HP Mini my sister has got the same one and I could get GTA:SA to run in it ^^. It's got Windows XP SP3.
