If you buy the notebook to play commercial games etc. you should take a windows program, but no Windows Vista! (best is XP). Windows costs a lot of money, even if linux is more safe, stable, ...

EDIT: But i think, when you buy a notebook, there is already windows (vista) on it. you should make a dualboot (when you start your notebook, you can choose between ubuntu and windows)
